Hearth- Recently someone did a poll on Facebook asking what food we missed from our hometown. I said boudin even though it turns out I’m pretty allergic to pork. ;-0
Home- Last year I tried winter sowing. Basically it’s sowing your seeds in the winter instead of indoors or outdoors after the last frost date. I used ice cream buckets. This year, I had a different approach. Already it’s proving to be successful.
Body- I love this video BuzzFeed did about young women wearing Mom Jeans. Skinny jeans are overrated.
I am rereading the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides. It’s been over a decade since I first read it and now, after having been to Lesvos, Greece and met people such as Emilia Kamvisi whose parents were the refugees about whom Eugenides wrote in the novel, I’m finding it even more fascinating.
Life- My mom has been into genealogy for as long as I can remember. So I’ve learned a lot about my ancestry. As an American my heritage is probably pretty typical- I’m a mutt. English, Welsh, French, German, perhaps some Basque, possibly some Mohawk. I love this surname finder for UK names. Doesn’t do all of my family names, but quite a few.
Loves- Last year my birthday was a disappointment. My husband took me out to an expensive restaurant where the duck fat-fried potatoes were underdone. So this year, I decided to celebrate with my go-to loves- family, BBC’s Pride and Prejudice, and tiramasu for a birthday cake. As we were watching P&P, my daughters commented how cool it would be to learn historical dances. I internet sleuthed and found this great site for Regency Period dances.
